Description Technical Specs FAQS
The unit is discontinued and no longer available (OUT OF STOCK). It has been replace by the education-focused Livin Hive Explorer (IN STOCK in our NC facility). We also have the 3-Tier Bug Factory Mealworm Habitat that is designed primarily for production.

With the LIVIN FARMS Hive you can grow healthy and sustainable food in the form of edible insects in the privacy of your own home. With this elegant and functional countertop design, you can grow protein-rich, superfood mealworms with minimal space, inputs and care. By feeding the insects your own veggie scraps and dried grains you will always know 100% of what you are consuming. When you substitute conventional store-bought meats with home-grown insect protein, you are eating lower on the food chain and reducing your carbon footprint by consciously selecting food alternatives with less of an impact on the natural world. Due to their high protein content, mealworms may also be fed to pet herps, songbirds and aquatic inhabitants including fish.

The inventors of The Hive have merged biology with specialized micro-controllers in order to create an innovative product that conveniently houses all stages of the lifecycle of the primariliy flightless darkling beetle (Tenebrio molitor). This self-contained mini-ecosystem efficiently operates on standard household current and will allow for a clean and continuous production of larvae from the original starter colony.

Nutritious mealworms are suprisingly tasty with their nutty flavor and crisy texture. This allows incorporation into a multitude of recipes, both novel and traditional.
